All Levels Welcome
In this 2-week workshop you will build your own functional or sculptural pieces and then explore decorating techniques using engobes. Engobes are basically colored liquid clay that are very versatile for decorating.
Week 1: Introduction to foundational hand building techniques: pinching, coiling, and slab building. You will then have the remainder of the time to work on your pieces, with individual guidance from the instructor.
Week 2: Ceramicist Adria Chilcote will give an introduction to engobe decoration techniques they’ve explored over the years in their own work including how to incorporate color, carving, and layers. You will then have time to use the provided engobes (clay paint) to try a variety of techniques of your choice.
Adria will fire your pieces and glaze them in glossy transparent glaze. All pieces will be food, microwave, and dishwasher safe. The work will be ready for pick up 4-6 weeks after the last session of the workshop. You will receive an email when your work is ready to pick up.
Because of limited space, we can only hold your work up to 3 weeks after the email notification. We understand life happens, but cancellations and refunds are only available a minimum of 7 days before the first workshop.

Ceramic Tile Making Workshop
——————-
20. & 27.05.
18:30-21:00
All Levels Welcome
€185
This workshop will start with making four 10 cm x 10 cm square clay tiles. They then need to partially dry before decorating and finishing. We will use the remainder of our first session with a presentation on pattern and tile design, with a discussion of decoration techniques. You will have time to sketch out your first ideas and discuss with the group.
The next week when we meet for the second time, we will look at any new ideas the group has brought into class and go over how to practically produce them. We will transfer the designs onto the clay tiles made the previous week and you will have time to carve, paint, and otherwise decorate your tiles.
You can make tiles prepared to be mounted with grout or to be hung on a nail or a hook. After the second and final session of the workshop, the instructor will fire and glaze all the tiles with a transparent glossy glaze.
We will send an email when your work is ready in 4-6 weeks. Because of limited space, we can only hold your work up to 3 weeks after the email notification. We understand life happens, but cancellations and refunds are only available a minimum of 7 days before the first workshop.

Elisabeth is a Product Designer and Jewelry Designer/Goldsmith. She studied Goldsmithing in Hanau, Schoonhoven and Amsterdam and Product Design at Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee.
Elisabeth mainly works with plaster molds and slip cast porcelain. She loves sharp and exact shapes, but also working with coincidences. Instead of color glazing her dishes and vases she colors the liquid porcelain with oxide stains. By pouring in different colors of porcelain in a mold, she creates surprising color mixes and swirling textures which are captured by the property of the plaster mold. In this process, every slip casted cup reveals a surprise when opening the mold. When the basic shapes repeat, every object is different due to the unique color mix that can never be replicated in the exact pattern.

Adria is continually experimenting with form, color, and pattern. To make her pieces she uses both the potter’s wheel and hand building techniques, sometimes altering thrown forms or using different colors of clay to create patterns in the clay body of the pieces themselves. Using underglazes, Adria explores surface design through many techniques such as painting, slip trailing, airbrush, sgraffito, inlay, and using paper and tape as resists.
Adria’s influences include her graphic design background, abstract constructivist art, Bauhaus design, ancient Greek ceramic forms, and the Memphis design-inspired pop culture of her 1980s childhood in the Midwest of the United States. While she often embraces a simple, clean approach for individual pieces, the collection of styles, colors and techniques that she employs creates a unique diversity of style, function, and design.

Elisa Broß is a jewellery designer with a background in visual communication and exhibition design. With her brand DREIZEHN, she translates her interdisciplinary experience into wearable objects, guided by a strong sensitivity to narrative, space, and material. Using the traditional lost wax casting technique, she creates organic and tactile silver jewellery that preserves the immediacy of the hand-shaped process.
Inspired by the poetic paradox of wax – its transformation from soft and malleable to enduring solid silver – her work reflects a belief in the strength of staying soft and open. Each piece is entirely one of a kind, preserving the traces of its making and emphasizing individuality over repetition.
